David Baxter banned from teaching indefinitely for misconduct

David Baxter, a 36-year-old former teacher at Great Clacton Church of England Junior School, has been banned from the teaching profession indefinitely. A Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) panel found that Baxter demonstrated favouritism and failed to maintain professional boundaries with a pupil during the 2021/22 academic year.

The investigation revealed that Baxter spent time alone with the pupil after school and provided them with items and privileges not given to others, such as milkshakes and specific food items during school trips. The panel also confirmed instances of inappropriate physical contact, including rubbing the pupil's side during a residential trip and allowing the pupil to rest their head on his chest or shoulder on a coach trip.

Vine Schools Trust, which operates the school, stated that allegations were made in April 2022 and that Baxter's employment was terminated in July 2022. The Trust noted that they acted in accordance with safeguarding procedures and referred the matter to the TRA immediately.
