David Benavidez targets multi-division run and heavyweight debut

Boxer David Benavidez is pursuing an ambitious multi-division career path, according to his father and trainer, Jose Benavidez Sr. The plan includes a December bout against WBC cruiserweight champion Michal Cieslak, followed by potential matchups with Jai Opetaia and either Artur Beterbiev or Dmitry Bivol.

Looking further ahead to 2027, the Benavidez camp expressed interest in a move to the heavyweight division for a fight against former champion Andy Ruiz Jr.

Meanwhile, British boxer Ben Whittaker has expressed interest in a showdown with Benavidez at Wembley Stadium. Whittaker, who is scheduled to face Conor Wallace in an IBF light heavyweight final eliminator, believes his fighting style would allow him to compete effectively against Benavidez, even as he eyes a potential world title shot against Dmitry Bivol.
