David Bennent celebrates 60th birthday

Swiss actor David Bennent is celebrating his 60th birthday. He gained international fame for his role as Oskar Matzerath in the 1979 film adaptation of Günter Grass’s novel, ‘The Tin Drum’, directed by Volker Schlöndorff.

Born in Lausanne on September 9, 1966, Bennent grew up in a family with strong ties to acting. His physical development played a unique role in his career; due to a growth disorder in infancy, he remained 1.30 meters tall until the age of 20, eventually growing an additional 25 centimeters. This condition made him uniquely suited for the role of Matzerath, a character who refuses to grow.
