David Bowie unreleased 1965 recordings released
A collection of ten previously unreleased recordings by David Bowie, titled ‘David Bowie – The Shel Talmy Recordings’, has been released on streaming platforms and in physical format. The tracks date back to 1965, a period when the artist was performing under his birth name, Davie Jones.
Music historian and archivist Alec Palao discovered the recordings while reviewing old records, initially finding five tracks in 2016 and later locating five more. Palao describes the material as some of the artist’s “most visceral and raw” work, providing a glimpse into the 1960s British music scene before Bowie achieved global stardom.
The sessions featured notable musicians from the era, including future Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page and pianist Nicky Hopkins. The collection includes tracks such as ‘I Want Your Love’, ‘Cupid’, and ‘Certain Woman’, as well as alternative versions of songs Bowie would later re-record during his career.
