David Byrne highlights new generation of Argentine musicians

Musician David Byrne has released a new 95-minute playlist titled “David Byrne Radio Presents: Argentina, La Nueva Generación.” The selection focuses on a contemporary movement in Argentina where young artists are integrating traditional musical elements, such as the bandoneon, traditional percussion, and charanga rhythms, into modern genres.

Byrne noted that this fusion is being driven by rappers, punk rockers, and electronic music artists rather than folk musicians. He observed that these artists use traditional sounds to express pride in their cultural roots. The playlist includes a diverse range of artists such as Cazzu, Milo J, Trueno, Feli Colina, Duratierra, Soledad, Los Alonsitos, and León Gieco.

Byrne also commented on the political context of the movement, stating that while the artists show pride in their culture, many remain highly critical of President Javier Milei.
