Elon Musk documentary features new song by David Byrne

Alex Gibney’s upcoming documentary, ‘Musk’, provides a critical examination of Elon Musk’s rise to power and his influence over technology, politics, and global infrastructure. The film, which runs approximately three to four hours, explores the impact of Musk’s companies, including SpaceX, Tesla, and Starlink, on society and democracy. Musk has publicly criticized the project, labeling it a ‘hit piece’.

Musician David Byrne has contributed an original song to the film titled ‘Let Me Sell You a Dream’. Co-written with composer Daniel Pemberton, the track utilizes Musk’s own public statements as lyrics. The song is intended as an Oscar-qualifying entry for Best Original Song at the 2027 Academy Awards, marking a potential return to the Oscars for Byrne, who last won an Academy Award in 1988.

The documentary is scheduled for a US theatrical release by Bleecker Street on October 16, following appearances at the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals.
