Elon Musk documentary features new song by David Byrne

Director Alex Gibney has released a nearly four-hour documentary titled ‘Musk’, which investigates the life, business practices, and growing influence of billionaire Elon Musk. The film has drawn criticism from Musk, who has labeled it a ‘hit piece’. To capture the subject's persona, Gibney utilized an animated AI version of Musk for certain interviews.

As part of the film's soundtrack, musician David Byrne and composer Daniel Pemberton have released a new song, ‘Let Me Sell You a Dream’. The track is a proto-punk piece that uses verbatim quotes from Musk’s public statements and interviews as its entire lyrical content. Byrne stated the goal was to ‘get inside his head’ rather than providing a personal editorial.

The documentary is scheduled for a theatrical release in select U.S. cities starting October 9, with a wider national rollout on October 16. The song is also being positioned for consideration for the 2027 Academy Awards for Best Original Song.
