David Corenswet compares Superman sequel to The Empire Strikes Back

David Corenswet has compared the upcoming film ‘Man of Tomorrow’ to ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ regarding its narrative structure. The sequel to James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ is expected to expand the scope of the characters, moving them into a second phase of their story with more established relationships.

In the film, Superman will team up with Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult, to face a threat from Brainiac, portrayed by Lars Eidinger. Corenswet noted that while the characters will enter the film with more stable dynamics—specifically between Superman and Lex, and Clark and Lois Lane—these relationships will be put at risk by the new conflict.

The production features a re-engineered, more functional suit for the lead character. Returning cast members include Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, with Aaron Pierre joining as John Stewart. The film is slated for a July 2027 release.
