David Corenswet transforms for role in ‘Mr. Irrelevant’

Actor David Corenswet is undergoing a significant physical transformation for the upcoming film ‘Mr. Irrelevant’. In the movie, Corenswet portrays John Tuggle, a former New York Giants running back who was the final pick of the 1983 NFL Draft.

To achieve the look of the 1980s athlete, Corenswet has adopted a more muscular build, a thick mustache, and sandy blonde hair. Hair and makeup designer Nikki Gooley noted that the styling aims to capture Tuggle’s ‘80s surfer feel. Because the film follows Tuggle’s journey through a cancer diagnosis, the production also required the use of wigs to depict the character’s hair loss, including scenes where he shaves his head into a mohawk and a buzz cut.

The film tells the story of Tuggle, who became a beloved figure in the NFL community despite being the last player selected in the draft, before his career was cut short by illness.
