David Ellefson reflects on watching Megadeth at Louder Than Life

Former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson described watching his former band perform at the Louder Than Life festival as a “rearview mirror moment.” Speaking on The David Ellefson Show, he noted that while the current lineup performs the songs well, the sound is distinct from his era with the band.

Ellefson, who performed at the festival with Metal Church, mentioned that he did not cross paths with frontman Dave Mustaine backstage, though he did introduce himself to guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari to compliment his playing. He also commented on current members, noting that drummer Dirk Verbeuren is a “fantastic player” and that bassist James LoMenzo has a different tone than his own.

Looking forward, Ellefson stated he has moved on to new projects, including his Bass Warrior tour, which will feature performances of Countdown To Extinction across Europe.
