David Faitelson sparks criticism after meeting with Ted Cruz

Mexican sports commentator David Faitelson has drawn social media criticism after posting photos of a meeting with U.S. Senator Ted Cruz. Faitelson described the encounter on X, noting he exchanged viewpoints with the Texas legislator.

The meeting is notable due to Cruz’s previous controversial stances regarding Mexico. In August 2025, Cruz suggested that the Mexican government adopt security strategies similar to those used by Nayib Bukele in El Salvador and hinted at potential U.S. actions if cooperation on cartel issues was not improved. These comments prompted a formal response from the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which emphasized that national security is the exclusive jurisdiction of Mexican authorities and that international cooperation must respect national sovereignty.
