David Finlay discusses transition from NJPW to AEW
Professional wrestler David Finlay has discussed his transition from New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) to All Elite Wrestling (AEW), noting the differences in production and scheduling. Finlay, who joined AEW in March 2026 alongside Clark Connors and Gabe Kidd, stated that he is still adjusting to the precision required by American television schedules compared to the more flexible match lengths experienced in NJPW.
Finlay revealed that his move to AEW was motivated by better salary, scheduling, and the opportunity to work with friends. He also noted a desire to avoid being placed in WWE's developmental system, NXT, after his tenure in Japan.
Regarding his history with the Bullet Club, Finlay explained that while he originally intended to end the faction after becoming its leader, NJPW declined due to the brand's profitability. This led to the formation of the Bullet Club War Dogs, a group composed largely of LA Dojo members. Finlay has since carried a version of this concept, known as ‘The Dogs’, to AEW.
