David Gutiérrez Miranda to face trial for embezzlement

A court in San Salvador has ordered a trial for former Minister of Public Works, David Gutiérrez Miranda, regarding corruption related to the construction of the Diego de Holguín Boulevard (now Monseñor Romero Boulevard) in Santa Tecla.

Gutiérrez is accused of embezzlement involving the public administration. The prosecution alleges that between December 2005 and January 2007, during the administration of Elías Antonio Saca, the state suffered financial damages exceeding $10.6 million.

Investigations indicate that while monthly payments were made to the contracted company for the second stage of the project, the work was not completed within the scheduled 420-day timeframe. The court has declared the former official in rebellion and issued an arrest warrant.
