David Jonsson Cast as New Black Panther in Marvel's 2028 Film
Marvel Studios announced at the 2026 San Diego Comic‑Con that British actor David Jonsson will portray Prince T'Challa II, the new Black Panther, in the upcoming Black Panther 3. The film is slated for theatrical release on 15 December 2028 and will follow the events of Avengers: Secret Wars.
Director Ryan Coogler met with Jonsson after seeing his work in Rye Lane, The Long Walk and Alien: Romulus, and advocated for his casting. Marvel President Kevin Feige recalled Coogler telling him, “He’s the guy… I felt it in my soul,” confirming Jonsson as the heir apparent. The casting received endorsements from MCU stars, including Michael B. Jordan, who said “I love it,” and Letitia Wright, who expressed excitement about working with Jonsson. Casting director Sarah Finn also praised Jonsson’s talent and presence.
Jonsson, a 32‑year‑old rising British actor, previously won the EE Rising Star BAFTA award and has built a reputation through roles in Rye Lane, The Long Walk and Alien: Romulus. He may make his MCU debut in Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) before headlining Black Panther 3.
