David Klempíř, son of Czech culture minister, hired at CzechTrade

David Klempíř, a 23‑year‑old son of Czech Minister of Culture Oto Klempíř, was appointed export consultant at the state trade‑promotion agency CzechTrade in June. The agency said the decision resulted from a competitive selection in which four candidates were evaluated against criteria such as a bachelor’s degree, relevant export or trade‑development experience, fluency in English and at least one additional language, and strong analytical and communication skills. Klempíř’s résumé lists recent roles as a source manager for an IT recruitment firm, a customer‑service representative at the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, and a front‑office agent at the Hilton hotel in Prague, but no prior export‑consulting experience.

Minister Oto Klempíř rejected accusations of nepotism, stating, “Můj syn prošel náročným výběrovým řízením bez protekce a mého ovlivňování čehokoli.” CzechTrade declined to disclose details about the other candidates, citing privacy concerns. The appointment has been highlighted as a possible case of nepotism within Czech public administration.
