David Lagercrantz releases essay on father Olof Lagercrantz

Author David Lagercrantz has released a new 75-page essay titled ‘Intränglingen’ (The Intruder), published by Norstedts. The work provides a personal look into the marital crisis experienced by his parents, Olof and Martina Lagercrantz, during the late 1980s.

The narrative was prompted by a young man claiming to be Olof Lagercrantz’s son. This revelation led to the disclosure of Olof’s frequent extramarital affairs with various acquaintances, including academics and authors. David Lagercrantz utilizes a posthumous manuscript written by his father, titled ‘Boken om smärtan’ (The Book of Pain), to explore these events.

The essay serves as a response to Alex Schulman’s previous work, ‘Bränn alla mina brev’, which depicted Karin Stolpe as Olof Lagercrantz’s primary love. Through this new text, Lagercrantz seeks to re-establish the significance of his mother, Martina, in his father's life.
