David Mackenzie thriller ‘Cuenta atrás’ set for August 2026 release

The action thriller ‘Cuenta atrás’, directed by David Mackenzie, is scheduled for release on August 14, 2026. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James, and Sam Worthington, the film is set in modern-day London.

The plot centers on the discovery of an unexploded World War II bomb during construction work in the Paddington area. This discovery triggers a massive police and military response, necessitating the evacuation of large sections of the city. Amidst the chaos and security perimeters, a criminal group attempts to execute a major bank robbery, utilizing the city-wide disruption as cover.

Director David Mackenzie noted that the concept was inspired by real-life reports of unexploded ordnance being found during urban construction in the United Kingdom. The film aims to blend the tension of a bomb disposal scenario with the high stakes of a heist movie, maintaining an intense pace within a runtime of approximately 91 to 98 minutes.
