David Mirković nears return to Illinois basketball following foot surgery

Montenegrin basketball player David Mirković is set to resume team training with the University of Illinois following a successful recovery from foot surgery. The surgery, performed in Indianapolis on July 31, follows an injury to his left foot.

After a standout freshman season in the NCAA, where he averaged 13.3 points, 8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game, Mirković has been named to the Big Ten Conference freshman All-Star Five. Following the departure of Keaton Wagler to the Los Angeles Clippers, Mirković is expected to take on a larger role for the Illini in the upcoming season, which begins November 1.

Looking ahead to professional prospects, CBS Sports has projected Mirković to be selected with the 11th overall pick by Philadelphia in the 2027 NBA Draft.
