David Montgomery promotes Scouting America to minority youth

Houston Texans running back David Montgomery is working with Scouting America to encourage more children, particularly Black children, to join the organization. Montgomery, who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 2014, credits the program with instilling essential values and providing him with the tools to distinguish right from wrong during his youth.

Montgomery previously belonged to Scout Unit 772, a Black troop in Cincinnati that has produced 40 Eagle Scouts. He noted that a fear of social perception often prevents minority children from joining, and he hopes his role as a professional athlete can serve as a positive example to show them that scouting is an accessible opportunity.
