David Nocar appointed chair of Olomouc branch of Czech Mathematical and Physical Society

David Nocar, a professor in the Department of Mathematics at the Pedagogical Faculty of Palacký University, has been elected chair of the Olomouc branch of the Jednota českých matematiků a fyziků (Czech Mathematical and Physical Society). He succeeds Professor Josef Molnár, who guided him into the society twenty‑five years ago. The society, founded 165 years ago, unites researchers, teachers and students in mathematics, physics and related fields and works to popularise these disciplines.

Nocar said the branch is active in publishing the peer‑reviewed journal Matematika‑fyzika‑informatika, organising competitions such as the Mathematical Kangaroo, and running events like “Run with the Kangaroo” and workshops for students and teachers. He aims to strengthen the membership base and continue the branch’s outreach and talent‑development programmes.
