David Okereke joins Benevento on free transfer

Nigerian forward David Okereke has reached a final agreement to sign with Benevento on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Cremonese. The 28-year-old attacker is expected to undergo medical tests in the Sannio region to finalize the move.

Benevento secured the signing despite interest from several other markets, including Turkish clubs Kocaelispor and Kasımpaşa, Belgian sides such as Cercle Brugge, and various Major League Soccer (MLS) clubs. Okereke's previous experience includes winning titles with Club Brugge and a recent loan spell at Gaziantep FK in Turkey, where he scored nine goals.

The club aims to register Okereke in time for their upcoming Coppa Italia match against Fiorentina. By acquiring him as a free agent, Benevento has avoided a transfer fee, allowing for potential investment in his salary and signing bonuses.
