David Ortiz Pleads Guilty to Armed Brinks Truck Robbery in Queens

Brooklyn man David Ortiz, 49, pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiracy and related charges for a daylight armed robbery of a Brinks armored truck at a Bank of America branch in St. Albans, Queens on June 2, 2025. Ortiz and an accomplice brandished firearms, threatened the truck’s employees, seized a service weapon and drove off in an unlicensed SUV with more than $540,000 in cash that has not been recovered.

U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Joseph Nocella said, “The defendant planned and carried out a violent armed robbery in broad daylight, threatening Brinks armored truck employees with a firearm while stealing more than a half a million dollars.” NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch added, “He thought he could get away with this dramatic crime, but his plan was no match for the skilled NYPD detectives and investigative tools they used to track and arrest him.”
