David Riley re-elected as JATAFCA president

David Riley has been re-elected unopposed as president of the Jamaica Track and Field Coaches Association (JATAFCA) during the association’s Annual General Meeting. Riley, who also serves as the head coach at Excelsior High School, will lead an executive team including first vice-president Megan Wilson-Copeland and second vice-president Damion Reid.

Key priorities for Riley’s new term include managing the first round of coaching licence renewals, expanding certification courses across the island, and advocating for improved working conditions to retain coaching expertise within Jamaica. Since January 1, 2025, track and field coaches in Jamaica have been required to hold a licence issued jointly by JATAFCA and the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA).

The association has recently focused on professional development, including delivering World Athletics Level 2 certification in Kingston, which saw 64 coaches certified. Upcoming scheduled activities include a World Athletics Level 1 assessment on October 21 and Level 2 courses for sprints, hurdles, and jumps in late December.
