David Rosero faces potential impeachment in Ecuador

The Ecuadorian Oversight and Political Control Commission is scheduled to meet on Saturday, September 5, 2026, to determine whether to qualify a request for political impeachment against David Rosero, a counselor of the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS).

The impeachment request, which has already been approved by the Legislative Administration Council (CAL), was filed by Assembly member Sergio Peña. Peña accuses Rosero of failure to perform his duties, citing a potential conflict of interest regarding a reported two-hour meeting between Rosero and Inés Romero, a candidate in the ongoing selection process for Attorney General.

Peña stated that the complaint, which included videos and photographs, was received via email. The CPCCS is currently managing the selection process for a new Attorney General to replace Diana Salazar, as well as the partial renewal of the National Electoral Council (CNE).
