David Schwartz compares Glock lawsuit to Ripple-SEC dispute
David Schwartz, CTO Emeritus of Ripple, has drawn parallels between a recent firearms lawsuit in Connecticut and Ripple’s long-standing legal battle with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Schwartz noted that the Glock litigation involves similar issues regarding businesses attempting to comply with unclear regulatory standards.
Glock filed a federal lawsuit in Connecticut challenging new restrictions on “convertible pistols” scheduled to take effect on October 1. The manufacturer is seeking emergency relief, arguing that state officials have not provided clear guidance on whether redesigned pistols comply with the new law. Schwartz described the situation as “grossly unfair,” suggesting that the pattern of ambiguous definitions and expansive regulatory interpretations seen in the Glock case mirrors the tactics the SEC used against Ripple regarding the sale of XRP.
While the Connecticut case does not involve cryptocurrency or the SEC, Schwartz’s comments highlight a broader debate concerning regulatory uncertainty and the impact of shifting legal requirements on corporate operations.
