David Schwartz discusses XRP value and XRPL utility
David Schwartz, CTO Emeritus at Ripple and a principal designer of the XRP Ledger (XRPL), has shared his perspective on the relationship between the ledger's success and the value of its native asset, XRP. Schwartz argues that it is highly unlikely for the XRPL to achieve significant success in financial applications without a corresponding increase in demand and value for XRP.
He attributes this potential demand to the fundamental requirements of the network: XRP is used to pay transaction fees, which are subsequently burned, and is required to maintain account reserves. Schwartz notes that the ledger's low fees and reliable performance attract capital and activity, which in turn allows XRP to capture value through its unique position as a neutral, counterparty-free asset within the ecosystem.
Separately, Schwartz cautioned against aggressive algorithmic content filtering on social media platforms. He warned that hiding suspicious posts to prevent scams could create an information vacuum, making it harder for experts and users to identify and respond to new phishing campaigns and fraudulent schemes targeting XRP holders.
