David Schwartz rejects proposal to increase XRP Ledger fees

David Schwartz, CTO Emeritus of Ripple and co-architect of the XRP Ledger, has criticized a proposal to increase transaction fees by 10 to 100 times. The suggestion, raised by an XRP holder, aims to accelerate the destruction of XRP by increasing the amount of the token burned during each transaction.

Schwartz argued that using fee revenue as a performance metric is “truly bizarre” and a “terrible metric.” He noted that high fees represent friction that a blockchain has failed to remove, rather than a sign of success. He emphasized that while higher fees might benefit those collecting them, they increase costs for the users paying them, questioning whose interests such a change would ultimately serve.
