David Shoebridge elected as new leader of the Greens

Senator David Shoebridge has been elected as the new leader of the Greens, with Steph Hodgins-May appointed as deputy following an internal party vote in Sydney.

In his first major appearances, Shoebridge reflected on the influence of his late political mentor, former NSW Greens MP John Kaye. He emphasized Kaye’s commitment to principles and renewable energy.

Addressing the current political climate, Shoebridge criticized the Labor Party regarding cost-of-living pressures, stating that many Australians are struggling to afford basic necessities at supermarkets. The new leadership faces the challenge of increasing the party's voter share, which has remained relatively stagnant at approximately 12 per cent since the 2025 federal election, while navigating a media landscape they claim is resistant to their messaging.
