David Shroitman cleared to face murder trial in New Jersey

David Shroitman, 30, has been cleared to face a murder trial in New Jersey for the 2024 killing of 27-year-old Maryrose Fealey. Somerset County Superior Court Judge Peter J. Tober ruled that Shroitman is competent to stand trial, noting he possesses an “extraordinarily competent understanding of the facts of his case.”

Shroitman was previously found incompetent to stand trial following initial evaluations in April 2025. He had been held at the Ann Klein Forensic Center, a secured psychiatric hospital in Trenton, to undergo competency restoration. During the recent hearing, Judge Tober cited expert testimony from Dr. Daniel Eddins and noted that Shroitman’s behavior had changed, including “overstressing or highlighting his stated symptoms.”

Fealey was discovered outside her home having been stabbed 37 times. The ruling allows the legal proceedings to move forward more than two years after the incident.
