David Silva returns to professional football with Supreme Sha Tin

Former Manchester City and Spanish national team midfielder David Silva has announced his return to professional football at age 40. After retiring in 2023 due to a serious knee injury sustained while playing for Real Sociedad, Silva has signed a short-term contract with Supreme Sha Tin in the Hong Kong Premier League.

Silva, a 2010 World Cup winner, will travel to Hong Kong to undergo a conditioning program to regain match fitness before his anticipated debut, which is expected to take place in November. The move is seen as a significant boost for the Hong Kong league, aiming to increase international visibility and interest in the region's footballing scene.

Silva expressed his enthusiasm for the new challenge, stating he is “very happy to join Supreme Sha Tin” and looks forward to experiencing the local culture, people, and cuisine. The club, which recently earned promotion to the top division, currently sits eighth in the league standings.
