David Sirca on trial for attempted extortion of Zuegg

A trial has commenced in Verona against David Sirca, a 51-year-old IT specialist known as ‘Acquabomber’, for the attempted extortion of the food group Zuegg. Prosecutors allege that Sirca sent three threatening emails demanding 100,000 euros to prevent the contamination of jam containers with thallium sulfate, a highly toxic substance.

Following the company's refusal to pay, Sirca reportedly claimed to have tampered with a jar in a Val di Fassa supermarket, providing a video as evidence. This threat led Zuegg and its distributors to conduct a precautionary withdrawal of products from store shelves, resulting in economic damages.

Sirca has a history of similar judicial proceedings. He was previously sentenced to three years in Cuneo for attempting to extort mineral water producers and a winery, and four years in Rome, totaling seven years of prison sentences. This current case regarding Zuegg is being treated as a separate legal matter.
