David Sánchez appeals nine-year disqualification sentence

Both the Spanish prosecution and the defense of David Sánchez, brother of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, have filed appeals against his nine-year disqualification sentence for administrative malfeasance.

The prosecution's appeal to the High Court of Justice of Extremadura argues that the original ruling lacks objective elements and relies on inferences rather than direct evidence. The prosecution contends there is no proof that the creation of Sánchez's position in the Badajoz Provincial Council was intended to benefit him personally. The ruling also convicted ten other individuals, including former official Miguel Ángel Gallardo.

Simultaneously, David Sánchez's defense has appealed the sentence, seeking acquittal. The defense alleges that fundamental rights, including the presumption of innocence and the secrecy of communications, were violated through the indiscriminate seizure of emails. They further dispute the allegations of workplace absenteeism, asserting that his professional activities were properly documented and supported by his contract.
