David Sánchez's Legal Team Seeks Dismissal of Charges Over Prescribed Contract
Spain's prosecutor Anna Isabel García León halted a strategy that aimed to challenge the investigations into David Sánchez, the brother of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, alleging an attempt to undermine the judge who opened the case. The trial is being held at the Audiencia Provincial of Badajoz, where Sánchez faces accusations of prevarication and influence‑peddling tied to his 2017 appointment as a coordinator for the Diputación de Badajoz and later positions.
Sánchez’s defence argued that the alleged illegal appointment is time‑prescribed, requesting that all charges relating to his first contract be dropped. The court has already accepted the prescription of a minor offense concerning the 2017 appointment and is now considering the broader request. Sánchez denied any private activity while employed by the Diputación, stating, “Nunca tuve compatibilidad para hacer otras tareas y no las hice. No tuve actividad privada.” The judge is expected to rule later this week, after which the case will move to the sentencing phase.
