David Spade's Joe Dirt to Return in New Animated Series

David Spade is bringing back his cult‑favorite character Joe Dirt in an animated series being developed for Fox. The show, co‑produced by Sony Pictures Television, will follow Joe 25 years after the original 2001 film, depicting his married life, three teenage daughters and new misadventures. Written by Scott Gairdner, the series is executive‑produced by Spade and Fred Wolf. No release date has been announced.

The project follows earlier attempts to adapt the franchise for television, including a 2010 pilot for TBS that was not picked up. The original film earned a cult following despite mixed reviews, and its 2015 sequel also received negative reception.
