David Stearns' roster management with the New York Mets

New York Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns has overseen several key roster moves during his tenure. Notable successes include the signing of superstar Juan Soto, who is expected to be a cornerstone of the franchise for at least five years and has become a central figure for the team.

Stearns also successfully navigated the free agency of Pete Alonso, securing him under favorable terms. Regarding the pitching staff, Stearns has worked to stabilize a rotation that has seen significant turnover. In 2024, the team utilized acquisitions such as Luis Severino and Sean Manaea, while also attempting a major pursuit of Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

While the organization has historically relied on high-end starting pitching, the current strategy involves a mix of inherited talent, minor league promotions, and targeted offseason acquisitions to address rotation depth.
