David Sullivan increases West Ham United shareholding to 40%

David Sullivan has increased his shareholding in West Ham United from 38.1% to 40% following a pre-emption allocation of Vanessa Gold’s shares. Despite previous allegations and safeguarding concerns that led to his resignation from the board, Sullivan appears to be planning a long-term succession strategy.

Reports suggest Sullivan intends to eventually hand his stake in the club to his sons, Jack and David Junior. This move comes amid ongoing speculation regarding the club’s ownership structure. While Sullivan previously indicated he might sell his stake upon the club’s return to the Premier League, his recent increase in shares suggests a different trajectory.

Some analysts suggest this move may be linked to broader ownership dynamics involving Daniel Kretinsky, who holds approximately 46% of the club, and financier Amanda Staveley. Staveley had previously expressed interest in acquiring not only Vanessa Gold’s 25.1% holding but also Sullivan’s stake, though her efforts were initially blocked by the partnership between Sullivan and Kretinsky.
