David Trezeguet extortion case results in prison sentences

An Italian court has ruled on an extortion case involving former French footballer David Trezeguet. In the spring of 2006, Trezeguet was targeted by paparazzi Fabrizio Corona, who obtained photographs of the player with a woman who was not his wife.

To prevent the publication of these images in the celebrity press, Trezeguet paid 25,000 euros. Following an investigation, the court determined the incident was an act of extortion. Trezeguet, acting as a civil party, has been granted the right to be compensated for the 25,000 euros paid.

As a result of the ruling, Fabrizio Corona and his collaborator Marco Bonato were both sentenced to three years and four months in prison for extortion. Additionally, the photographer involved, Fabrizio Pensa, received a five-month prison sentence for invasion of privacy.
