Nyesom Wike criticizes Peter Obi ahead of 2027 elections

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has questioned the leadership capacity of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi. Speaking at a town hall meeting in Bonny, Rivers State, Wike dismissed Obi’s social media popularity as insufficient for governing the country, labeling him the ‘president of social media.’

Wike also mocked Obi’s perceived frugality, specifically referencing his habit of carrying his own luggage, which the minister characterized as being ‘stingy.’ He urged voters to evaluate candidates based on their administrative records, contrasting Obi’s tenure as Anambra State governor with the current performance of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

In addition to his criticisms of Obi, Wike defended President Bola Tinubu’s administration, citing improved funding for public universities and increased allocations to state and local governments as evidence of effective leadership. He also raised allegations of financial mismanagement regarding previous Rivers State administrations, including claims of uncompleted hospital and infrastructure projects.
