David Voverka, founder of Messenger courier services, dies at 58

David Voverka, the founder of the Czech courier company Messenger, has died at the age of 58. He passed away suddenly during a cycling trip in the Šumava region.

Voverka was a pioneer in the Czech express delivery sector, establishing Messenger in 1991 shortly after the fall of the communist regime. Starting as a small project in Prague with bicycle couriers, he grew the business into a major provider of national and international courier services over a 30-year career.

In the early days of the company, Voverka and his partners operated with limited resources, initially using bicycles and later motorcycles to expand services to cities like Brno and Bratislava. The company's history even included a cameo in the film ‘Vratné lahve’, where actor Zdeněk Svěrák portrayed a courier.
