David Warner criticizes low fan turnout in South Africa vs Australia Test series

Former Australian cricketer David Warner has criticized the low spectator turnout during the ongoing Test series between South Africa and Australia. Taking to social media, Warner described the empty stands and lack of atmosphere as ‘pathetic,’ questioning the claim that Test cricket is thriving if fans are not attending.

The first Test at Kingsmead in Durban saw fewer than 20,000 fans over five days, which is less than one-fifth of the stadium's capacity. The second Test at St George's Park in Gqeberha has also faced low attendance, compounded by rain on the opening days.

Several factors may contribute to the low numbers, including scheduling shifts due to the SA20 league and the IPL, as well as the fact that this is South Africa's first home Test series since becoming World Test Champions. The KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union (KZNCU) has announced an internal review to understand the causes of the low turnout.
