David Williams urged to consult firefighters following Okanagan fires
An open letter has been addressed to Salmon Arm-Shuswap MLA David Williams, urging him to engage in direct dialogue with firefighters following recent forest fires in the Okanagan region.
The letter follows a social media post by Williams on August 8, 2026, in which he stated that forest management, wildfire response, and the justice system regarding human-caused fires require serious reform. The author of the letter, a former wildland firefighter, emphasizes the need for leadership and support for those impacted by the fires, while cautioning against the vilification of firefighting crews amidst the community's distress.
