Davide Brivio compares MotoGP and Formula 1 autonomy

Davide Brivio, a veteran of both MotoGP and Formula 1, has highlighted the fundamental differences between the two racing disciplines. Having worked with Valentino Rossi at Yamaha, won a world title with Suzuki, served as a director at Alpine in F1, and currently working with Trackhouse-Aprilia, Brivio offers a unique perspective on the technical and operational scales of both sports.

Brivio notes that while Formula 1 involves much larger organizations and higher technological complexity, the most significant distinction lies in driver autonomy. In Formula 1, there is constant communication between the cockpit and the pit wall regarding tire status, temperatures, and strategy. In contrast, Brivio explains that in MotoGP, once the lights go out, the rider must largely decide and interpret the race conditions, such as tire wear and pace, on their own.

He warned that if MotoGP moves too close to the Formula 1 model, it risks losing the unique essence that makes motorcycle racing special, where the rider remains the central protagonist of the competition.
