Davide Faraone criticizes Ismaele La Vardera over Sicilian center-left tensions

Davide Faraone of Italia Viva has launched a sharp critique against regional deputy Ismaele La Vardera, sparking tension within the Sicilian center-left coalition. Faraone accused La Vardera of treating the progressive alliance as a ‘daily target practice’ rather than working to build a unified alternative to the right.

The dispute follows La Vardera’s decision to join Progetto Civico and his stated intention to remain within the center-left. Faraone argued that instead of fostering cooperation, La Vardera has systematically attacked allies, including members of the Democratic Party (PD), the Five Star Movement (M5S), and even members of his own political movement.

Faraone further questioned La Vardera’s political consistency, noting his previous political ties to the right and past candidacy for mayor of Palermo supported by figures such as Salvini and Meloni. He suggested that such constant internal friction and the tendency to see conspiracies everywhere undermines the coalition's ability to present a cohesive political front.
