Davide Piganzoli takes leadership role at Visma ahead of Il Lombardia

Davide Piganzoli has emerged as a key leader for Team Visma | Lease a Bike heading into Il Lombardia. Following a breakout 2026 season, the 24-year-old Italian rider has transitioned from a developmental prospect to a top performer, noting that his progress has been a “major leap in quality” in terms of both physical ability and results.

Piganzoli’s recent successes include overall wins at La Route d'Occitanie and the Tour de Luxembourg, as well as a solo victory at the Giro dell'Emilia. He also secured notable positions in the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France.

Looking ahead to Il Lombardia, Piganzoli anticipates an open race due to the absence of Tadej Pogačar. He suggests that while the race may lack a single dominant figure, the high elevation gain and difficulty level will likely narrow the field of favorites. He expressed confidence in his team's form, citing their strong collective performance at the Giro dell'Emilia.
