Davido hints at leaving music to focus on wealth after social media dispute

Afrobeats singer Davido has suggested he may eventually leave the music industry to focus on accumulating greater wealth. The comment surfaced during a heated exchange on X (formerly Twitter) with Nigerian rapper Erigga.

The dispute began when Erigga praised musicians who achieved success without the support of family wealth. Davido defended artists from privileged backgrounds, arguing that coming from a wealthy family does not preclude an individual from working hard to reach the top. He characterized Erigga’s sentiment as “useless motivation” and suggested that once he achieves his goal of making billions, the music industry may become “boring.”

Davido, whose father is billionaire businessman Adedeji Adeleke, has frequently addressed criticisms regarding his upbringing. He has maintained that his success is a result of his own work ethic rather than solely his family's financial status.
