Davidsfonds organizes historical art lectures in Belgium

As part of the ‘Nachten van de Geschiedenis’ series, Davidsfonds is organizing two historical lectures in Belgium focused on significant art and mysteries.

On November 10, 2026, Professor Danny De Looze will present a lecture in Oosterzele regarding the 1642 painting ‘De Besnijdenis van Christus’ (The Circumcision of Christ) located in the Sint-Andreaskerk in Strijpen. The presentation will explore recent research by De Looze and Christiaan Demeunynck, which reattributed the work from Gaspar de Crayer or Theodoor van Loon to the Ghent painter Nicolas De Liemakere, also known as Nicolas Roose.

On November 12, 2026, an audiovisual lecture will be held in Boechout led by Filip Van Beurden. This session will examine the unsolved 1934 theft of the ‘Just Judges’ panel from the Ghent Altarpiece (The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb), critically analyzing various hypotheses surrounding the mysterious disappearance.
