Da’Vinchi faces backlash over comments on Black Americans

Actor Da’Vinchi, also known as Abraham Juste, is facing significant backlash following comments made on Cam Newton’s ‘Funky Friday’ podcast. During the appearance, the Haitian American actor suggested that Black Americans have been ‘incompetent for a really long time’ and characterized the work ethic of many as ‘very lazy and poor.’

Da’Vinchi also addressed perceptions regarding the diaspora, agreeing with Newton that some individuals from the Caribbean, Africa, and the UK may view themselves as superior to Black Americans, though he noted he did not believe that view was correct. Additionally, he argued that certain historical perspectives on slavery may hinder progress for Black Americans.

Radio host Karen Hunter criticized the actor, noting that his career has been supported by the opportunities created by Black American entertainers such as Tyler Perry and Taraji P. Henson. The advocacy group Freedmen Nation has added Da’Vinchi to its boycott list, and reports indicate he has lost approximately 200,000 followers following the remarks.
