Davis Martin ejected and placed on IL after wild pitches near Sal Stewart

Chicago White Sox pitcher Davis Martin was ejected during a game against the Cincinnati Reds after two consecutive pitches landed near Reds batter Sal Stewart. The first pitch sailed high over Stewart’s head, and the following 92-mph fastball struck the brim of Stewart’s helmet. The incident triggered a benches-clearing altercation between both teams.

Martin later attributed his control issues to a blister on his right middle finger. Following the game, the White Sox placed Martin on the 15-day injured list due to the blister. To address pitching depth, the team optioned reliever Tanner McDougal to Triple-A and called up starter José Urquidy and reliever Tyler Schweitzer.

The Reds won the game 9-8. Reds manager Terry Francona criticized the pitches, stating, “I thought that was extremely blatant, and you can’t throw two balls like that head high. You can kill somebody.”
