DaVita Ecuador reaches agreement with government to maintain dialysis treatments

An agreement has been reached between the Ecuadorian government and the dialysis provider DaVita to ensure the continuity of medical treatments for thousands of patients. The announcement follows two weeks of uncertainty regarding the care of 3,850 renal patients referred by the Ministry of Public Health (MSP).

Previously, the Renal Patient Front had raised alarms concerning a crisis affecting approximately 20,800 people with kidney disease in Ecuador. Patients and families had organized symbolic protests at various government institutions, including the Ministry of Public Health and the Palace of Carondelet, to highlight risks of treatment interruptions caused by supply shortages and unpaid debts to providers.

DaVita Ecuador confirmed that the resolution was achieved following meetings with President Daniel Noboa and health officials. The company stated that the forced transition of patient care previously announced is now void, and patients will continue to receive dialysis, medication, and comprehensive care at their 28 centers. Specific details regarding the commitments made by both the government and the company are expected to be released in the coming days.
