Davoli Marina seafront under judicial seizure over environmental concerns
A public works project on the Davoli Marina seafront, valued at approximately 250,000 euros, has been placed under judicial seizure for roughly 750 meters following allegations of environmental misconduct. The project, which was funded through weather emergency funds, is under investigation for the suspected illegal burial of construction waste.
Elisabetta Barbuto, a regional councilor for the Movimento 5 Stelle in Calabria, has filed an inquiry with regional authorities regarding the situation. Evidence suggests that instead of being disposed of in authorized landfills, materials such as concrete, bricks, dust, and rusted metal reinforcements may have been buried under the sand and within the containment slope. This poses a risk to the protected landscape, as winter storms could wash the debris into the sea.
Barbuto has also raised questions regarding the administrative handling of the funds. Regional Civil Protection authorities reportedly liquidated 263,000 euros to the Municipality of Davoli in September, despite the ongoing issues with the construction site.
